Wisdom Circle

Creating intimate spaces for unhurried conversations, storytelling, and genuine learning across generations.

The Story Behind the Initiative

Some of our best conversations at old age homes haven't happened in a crowded hall or during a scheduled program. They happened when four or five of us huddled up into a rough circle around one or two residents, and just talked; no agenda, no performance, nobody checking the time.

We noticed that a smaller room changes what people are willing to say. In a group of thirty, someone might smile politely and share the same well-worn story they've told a dozen visitors before. In a group of five, they'll go somewhere they haven't gone in years; a regret, a turning point, a version of themselves they don't often get to talk about. Wisdom Circle exists to keep recreating that smaller room, on purpose, again and again.

How It Works

Every two weeks, a small group of five to ten of us visits an old age home to sit with one senior citizen, or a small cluster of them, for an unhurried conversation. There's no script to follow; just questions worth asking, room to go quiet when needed, and enough time that nobody feels rushed toward the next thing.

What starts as small talk usually turns into something closer to storytelling, and sometimes into a genuine back-and-forth where the group is just as open as the person they came to visit.

Our Objectives

Keep the group small enough that real conversation, not performance, is what happens.

Practice listening as a skill - patient, curious, not rushing to fill silence.

Give participants a chance to actually learn something from a life very different from their own.

Make sure the senior citizens in the room leave feeling like the conversation mattered, not like they were visited.

What We Hope to Create

Done consistently, a recurring small circle does something a one-time visit can't: it becomes something people look forward to. We want residents to walk into that room every two weeks knowing they'll be asked real questions and actually listened to, and we want participants to leave each session having unlearned some assumptions about what growing older looks like. If both sides keep showing up, the circle starts to feel less like a program and more like an ongoing conversation nobody wants to end.
