The Story Behind the Initiative
A story told once, to one visitor, in one room, still eventually disappears with the person who told it. We kept coming back from our visits with conversations we didn't want to lose; a partition-era migration, a marriage arranged through letters, a career built before half the tools we take for granted even existed. These weren't small stories. They just hadn't found their way past the walls they were told behind.
Hamari Kahani; "our story" is where those conversations go next. Not to be filed away, but to be read by someone's grandchild, shared by a stranger who needed to hear exactly that, or found by a family member who never got the chance to ask these questions themselves.
How It Works
Every few days, we pull a story or reflection from the conversations gathered through initiatives like 7 Days 7 Meals and Wisdom Circle, and put it out into the world, on our website and across social media.
A story that started as one senior citizen talking to a small group of volunteers in an old age home ends up in front of hundreds of strangers, and sometimes, in front of the very families who hadn't heard it either.
Our Objectives
Turn in-person conversations into something that outlasts the conversation itself.
Put these stories in front of people who wouldn't otherwise encounter them: families, young people, the wider community.
Give credit where it's overdue: to the resilience and choices that got someone through decades we can barely imagine.
Build a record specific enough that someone, years from now, can actually learn something from it.
What We Hope to Create
We want a story told in an old age home in Hyderabad to be able to travel; to a screen in another city, into a family group chat, onto a page someone stumbles onto years from now looking for something else entirely. Hamari Kahani is our attempt to make sure a life doesn't have to end for its story to stop being told.
