7 Days 7 Meals
Showing up at the table. A week of unhurried conversations and meaningful connections with senior citizens across Hyderabad.
The Story Behind the Initiative
There's a reason grandmothers always ask if you've eaten before they ask anything else. Food is rarely just food - it's the thing that gets people to stay in the room a little longer, to drop their guard, to talk about something other than the weather. That's the entire premise behind 7 Days 7 Meals.
Across Hyderabad, old age homes are full of residents who've spent decades running households, raising children, holding jobs, surviving things most of us have only read about, and who now spend most days without anyone asking them a real question.
We didn't want to walk in with a clipboard and a survey. We wanted to walk in the way you'd walk into a relative's house before a meal: early, unhurried, ready to just sit and talk until the food arrives. That's what this initiative is. Not an event. A week of showing up at the table. Showing that they are still appreciated and valued.
How It Works
Over seven days, our volunteers visit seven different old age homes across Hyderabad, timed around breakfast, lunch, or evening snacks. We show up two to three hours before the meal; not to fill time, but because the best conversations don't happen on a schedule.
Those few hours are spent listening: hearing where someone grew up, what they did for a living, what they miss, what still makes them laugh. Every home we visit adds names and stories to a growing network that feeds directly into Project Legacy's Journey.
Our Objectives
Build relationships with Senior citizens that don't end when the week does.
Understand their lives; where they've been, what they still hope for, how they see things now.
Notice the practical stuff too: what they need, what's hard for them, what would actually help.
Collect the stories and lessons worth carrying forward to the next generation.
What We Hope to Create
Seven days is a start, not an endpoint. Every conversation we have this week becomes part of a larger, living record, a part of the digital archive, and relationships that continue well past the last meal. If it works the way we hope, the elders at these homes will start to expect us back, not because we scheduled another visit, but because someone finally treated their stories like they were worth remembering.
